Description

In the fall of 2002, doors opened bringing together history on this downtown corner of Asylum and Trumbull streets in Hartford, CT.
The Brownstone building, constructed in 1861 to house the Charter Oak Bank, became home to McKinnon’s. The original bank vault, complete with two multiple ton doors and encased with 18 inches of concrete and rebar, makes home to our kitchen. History behind the solid twenty four foot hardwood bar and back piece is a bit more involved. Built by the amalgamated woodworkers union and shipped by sea from upstate NY, to Port Townsend Seattle, Washington in the late 19th century, the bar became a fixture at the Olde Town Tavern which was featured in the movie, Officer and a Gentleman, with non other than Tom Cruise gracing it with his presence. As one walks through our front entrance, there is a framed photo from 1928 showing some regular rabble rousers at the "it" club.
